Foxcote Wood

The woodland around Foxcote sits tucked between Buckingham and the Northamptonshire countryside, and it's the sort of place you stumble upon rather than plan for. Ancient trees, proper dense canopy stuff, and enough space to actually breathe without bumping into other walkers. The wood itself is manageable - you're not talking Sherwood Forest scale - but it rewards a proper poke around.

Walkers and families with restless kids will get the most from it. There's room to wander off the beaten path without getting genuinely lost, and the woodland floor keeps things interesting with natural features rather than relying on manicured trails. Allow an hour to ninety minutes if you want to do more than a quick circuit.

If you're based at one of the nearby campsites - Windmill Farm, Silverstone Farm, or Hamilton Fields are all within five miles - Foxcote Wood makes an excellent morning or late-afternoon break from campsite life. It's close enough not to feel like a proper outing, but far enough away to feel like proper countryside. No facilities to speak of, so bring water if you're planning to stay long. The autumn walk through here is genuinely worth timing your visit for, when the light changes everything.

It's not a destination in itself - you wouldn't build a day around it alone - but as part of a wider park holiday in the area, it's the kind of stop that makes the difference between a forgettable trip and one you actually remember. Just decent woodland, well placed.
