About Floodbrook Clough
The clough itself - that's the valley - is the main draw. Water runs year-round, and after rain it becomes quite dramatic, tumbling over moss-covered rocks and fallen logs. There's something very satisfying about a landscape that's doing its own thing rather than being managed for Instagram. Families with kids old enough for a proper walk (seven or eight onwards) will enjoy it. Younger ones might find the terrain a bit uneven and dull if you're not actually paddling.
Walking here takes two to three hours depending on which route you pick. There's no entrance fee that I could find - it appears to be a free public access forest. Definitely check conditions before you go, especially in winter when mud becomes the main feature.
If you're staying at The Ridgeway or Delamere Forest nearby, this is an excellent half-day option to break up the holiday park routine. It's less touristy than Delamere Forest itself, though admittedly rougher around the edges. Worth the trip if you want actual woodland rather than a destination in itself.
