Flint Vineyard

A working vineyard in Norfolk that actually produces wine - not exactly what you'd expect in East Anglia, but Flint Vineyard proves the region's got more going on than just sugar beet. The vineyard sits near Bungay, that charming market town on the River Waveney, and it's a proper working operation rather than some tourist trap with gift shop tack.

What you're looking at is a small-scale English wine producer doing the serious stuff. You can walk the vines if they're open to visitors, see how they manage the climate (no mean feat in Norfolk), and actually taste wines made from grapes grown in the fields around you. The whole operation feels refreshingly unglamorous - this is farming, not theatre.

It works best if you're genuinely interested in how English wine gets made. History buffs and casual drinkers will find it fine enough for an hour or so; families with young kids might find it a bit thin on entertainment unless the children are already bored by conventional attractions. Worth combining with a walk along the Waveney or a stop in Bungay itself.

If you're based at one of the nearby campsites - Wardley Hill is properly rated, and Dawn Chorus Holidays does lovely shepherd huts on a working farm - this makes an easy afternoon diversion. Check ahead on opening arrangements though, as smaller operations can be spotty with hours. Norfolk's vineyard scene is growing quietly; this is part of that story.
