The back nine especially, played along the clifftop, are worth the membership fees alone.

You're looking at a traditional members' club, so day visits aren't guaranteed - worth ringing ahead on that front. Expect to pay green fees if they'll have you, and allow a solid four hours for a round if you're not a member playing regularly. The course demands respect. Wind comes off the North Sea with real bite, and the undulating terrain catches out anyone thinking it'll be easy just because it looks pretty.

Golfers will have an absolute time here. Families without golf obsessions might find themselves at a loose end, though the location itself - right above those distinctive white cliffs - makes it worth the trip just to walk the perimeter and see what the fuss is about. Autumn and early spring play best, when the wind isn't quite so aggressive and visibility is proper.

Stay at Haven Thornwick Bay or Flamborough Glamping just down the road (both within 1.3 miles), and you're sorted for the weekend. It's worth combining with a walk along the headland itself or a visit into Bridlington for fish and chips afterwards.
