Finlarg Hill

The walk up Finlarg Hill from Forfar is straightforward enough, and the reward at the summit is genuinely good views across Aberdeenshire's rolling farmland. It's not a massive peak - nothing that'll knacker you out - but it's the sort of local hill that locals actually use rather than just talk about.

You get proper panoramic views once you're up there, stretching across the Highlands to the north and down towards the lowlands. On a clear day it's well worth the effort. The walk itself takes maybe an hour each way depending on your pace and which route you take from Forfar. Timing-wise, go for late afternoon if the weather's decent - the light from the west is lovely, and you'll have the hill mostly to yourself. Avoid it on grey, clag-bound days when the views disappear entirely. The ground can get boggy in places after rain, so decent boots are sensible.
