Walking out to Ffrwd Farm Mire feels like stepping into a completely different landscape from the caravan parks dotted around Burry Port. This nature reserve is one of those places where you actually notice the quiet - no gift shops, no entrance fees, just proper wetland habitat that's genuinely worth a detour if you're into birds or plants.

The reserve itself is relatively compact, so don't expect an all-day expedition. An hour or so is usually enough to get a feel for it, though if you're a keen birder you might want to linger longer. The mire is best visited in spring or early summer when the wildlife is most active and the vegetation's at its lushest. Winter can feel a bit bleak, though the migratory birds make it interesting for twitchers.
