Pembrey Miniature Railway

The narrow-gauge trains here are proper fun if you've got kids in tow, or if you're the sort of adult who still gets a kick out of miniature railways. It's a working heritage line with small steam and diesel locomotives that trundle through Pembrey Country Park - so you're getting the trains plus woodland walks and coastal views rolled into one afternoon.

You board at ground level and the journey takes you through some decent scenery for South Wales. It's not a long ride - maybe twenty minutes or so - but it's enough to feel like you've actually gone somewhere rather than just done a lap of the car park. The whole experience is genuinely engaging even if you're not obsessed with railways. Kids under five might find it a bit samey, but anyone six and up will likely stay entertained.

The railway sits right on the edge of Pembrey Country Park, which is excellent news if you're staying nearby. The Pembrey Country Park Caravan and Motorhome Club Campsite is practically on your doorstep - less than a mile away - so you could easily combine this with woodland walks, beach time at Burry Port, and the park's other facilities. Admission isn't pricey and it's worth doing on a decent day when the trains are running. Check ahead for operating hours as they're seasonal. It's not a full-day event, but as part of a broader park weekend it works well.
