The stocks sit right in the heart of the settlement, and wandering between the cottages and churchyard gives the whole story proper context. History buffs will find it worthwhile. Families with younger kids might need to manage expectations - it's not interactive or dramatic, just a stone reminder of grim times.

There's no admission fee and it's accessible any time since it's in the open air. Allow a couple of hours to do the village properly - grab a coffee, walk the plague walk if you fancy it, then head back. From Buxton it's about twenty minutes away. If you're based at Derbyshire Hills Campsite or any of the others dotted around Chatsworth way, Eyam makes a solid half-day excursion. Combine it with the surrounding walks and you've got a decent afternoon without breaking the bank.
