It's a proper bit of Victorian engineering, and the views from up top - if you can access them - sweep across the Chester rooftops and down towards the river.

For most visitors, this is a quick stop rather than a destination in itself. Five minutes to admire the architecture, snap a photo from street level, and you're done. History buffs might linger to read about its construction and how it replaced an earlier gate in the city walls. Kids rarely complain about clock towers, though they won't stay entertained for long.

The whole thing is free to look at, obviously, since it sits on a public street. Getting up inside the clock tower isn't something you can do casually - access is limited and requires planning ahead.
