A proper slice of East Yorkshire wetland sits just outside Hull at Eastfield Road - nothing flashy, but genuinely worth an hour if you're staying at one of the nearby parks. It's a nature reserve that actually feels like nature, not some manicured nature centre with a gift shop. You get ponds, rough grassland, and if you're lucky, sightings of water birds and insects that most people walk straight past without noticing.

The appeal here is straightforward. Walkers will find it pleasant enough for a gentle circuit, though don't expect dramatic vistas. Birdwatchers and wildlife photographers should come early morning - that's when things actually move about. Kids can burn off energy spotting frogs or dragonflies, though they might get restless if you're hoping for a full afternoon's occupation.

Access appears to be free and open, though it's worth checking locally before you visit as information online is thin on the ground. Allow 45 minutes to an hour for a relaxed walk round, maybe longer if you've brought binoculars and patience.

It's genuinely useful if you're based at Little Otchan Glamping or Sand le Mere - gives you an outdoors option that doesn't require packing the car for a full day out. Close enough to Hull for a morning trip, far enough away to feel like proper countryside. Not a showstopper, but it does what it says on the tin.
