Dunwood Hill

The walk up Dunwood Hill takes about twenty minutes from the car park, and honestly it's worth every step. You're climbing through proper downland - chalky paths, open grassland, the kind of landscape that makes you understand why Wiltshire folk fought so hard to keep it. The summit itself isn't dramatic, but the 360-degree views across the Test Valley and toward Stockbridge are genuinely impressive on a clear day.

It's the sort of place where walkers will spend a solid hour poking about and soaking it in, while families with younger kids might find it a bit steep and two-dimensional - there's no playground or visitor centre to break up the experience. That said, the grassland is good for rolling about on, and the space feels properly wild without being remote enough to worry about.

The nearest thing to facilities is back in Stockbridge itself, a mile or so away, so bring your own supplies. Go in late afternoon if you can - the light hits the chalk properly, and you'll likely have the hill to yourself. If you're staying at Green Hill Farm Holiday Village just a few miles away, this makes an excellent evening walk before dinner. It's not a day-long undertaking, but it's the kind of view that sticks with you.
