Drake Hill

The walk up Drake Hill from Shipley rewards you with proper views across the Worth Valley - moorland rolls away in all directions, and on a clear day you can pick out the industrial landscape of Bradford beyond. It's not a dramatic peak, nothing dramatic about it really, but the climb itself is straightforward and takes about half an hour from the nearest carpark, depending on fitness and which route you fancy.

This is walker territory, genuinely. You won't find teashops or visitor centres at the top, just the marker and the views. Kids might get restless on the ascent if they're young, but teenagers keen on a bit of fell-walking will enjoy it fine. The moorland setting means weather changes quickly, so bring a jacket even on what looks like a decent day.

You're doing this as part of a broader walking holiday based at one of the nearby parks - Moor Valley Country Park sits just 2.5 miles away and makes a sensible base if you're planning multiple walks in the Worth Valley. Dobrudden and Crook Farm are closer still. Early morning is your best bet for light and solitude. The whole outing, including a dawdle at the top, runs to about ninety minutes.

Worth the effort? Yes, if you're already in the area walking. Don't go out of your way specially for it, but combine it with the valley's other footpaths and you've got a solid half-day.
