Cabin Hill

The climb up from Shipley town centre takes about 45 minutes on foot, but Cabin Hill rewards proper walkers with sweeping views across the Aire Valley and beyond. Standing at just over 200 metres, it's hardly a mountain, but the panoramic outlook makes it feel much higher than it actually is. You'll spot Bradford's tower blocks to the south and the moors stretching north towards Ilkley on a clear day.

Keep an eye out for the old quarry workings as you ascend - remnants of the area's industrial past that add character to what could otherwise be just another Yorkshire hill. The paths can get muddy after rain, so proper boots are essential if you're visiting between October and March.

Families with older children will manage the walk fine, though it might be a bit much for little legs. Dog walkers absolutely love this spot - there's plenty of space to let them run once you reach the top. The whole trip up and back takes around two hours, making it a decent morning's exercise if you're staying at one of the nearby holiday parks like Dobrudden or Crook Farm Park. Not spectacular by Yorkshire standards, but well worth the effort for a proper leg stretch and some fresh air away from the towns below.
