Walk into Dovepool Wood near Market Drayton and you've got proper woodland - the kind where light filters through in patches and the path actually feels like it's going somewhere. It's a small forest, nothing vast, but dense enough that you lose the sense of the surrounding countryside pretty quickly.

The main draw here is straightforward: a decent circular walk through mature trees, decent enough ground cover, and enough shade to make it pleasant even when the weather's warm. Older walkers might find it a bit compact for a full afternoon, but it's the sort of place you could pair with a walk around Market Drayton itself, or combine with a pub lunch without making a day of it. Dog walkers love it.

If you're staying at Westcott Woods Glamping just down the road, this is genuinely convenient - close enough for a morning stroll without needing to load up the car. The woodland's free to access and there's no formal entrance fees as far as I can tell, though facilities are minimal. Go midweek if you want it quiet. Weekends can get a bit busy with locals who know the place.
