Dog Friendly Beach

Morecambe's dog-friendly beach is exactly what it says on the tin - a proper stretch of sand where your dog can actually have a run without someone blowing a whistle at you. The bay itself is wide and flat at low tide, which means plenty of space to throw a ball without worrying you'll lose it in a crowd. The promenade runs alongside, lined with the usual seaside shops and cafes, most of which are happy to let dogs sit outside while you grab a coffee.

It's brilliant for families with dogs, frankly. Kids can paddle while the dog burns off some energy, and the bay's gentle gradient means you're not fighting treacherous currents. On a decent day - and Lancashire does have decent days - the views across Morecambe Bay are genuinely worth lingering for. The sea's not going to win any awards for Caribbean clarity, but that's not really the point.

Being completely honest, it gets rammed in summer holidays and weekends, so early morning or shoulder season visits are far more enjoyable. Check the tide times before you head down - high tide leaves little room to move. Parking's easy enough near the seafront, and it's free, which is the only way a beach should be.

If you're staying at Bay View Holiday Park or Parkdean Resorts Ocean Edge just down the coast, this is a natural add-on to your day. Crook O'Lune Holiday Park is further inland, so less convenient, but still worth a drive. Bring a towel for the dog, and go when the weather's decent.
