Dodson's Hill

The walk up Dodson's Hill rewards you with views across the Lune Valley that stretch for miles on a clear day. It's not a dramatic peak - nothing like the Lake District's bigger names - but that's rather the point. You can get up and down in under an hour from Carnforth, and the moorland setting feels genuinely wild despite being accessible.

Historywalks will find the broader landscape interesting - these moors have been grazed and worked for centuries - but don't come expecting dramatic ruins or monuments. Families with youngish kids might find the walk a bit long if the legs are tired, though it's not technical. Stay at Primrose Glamping Pods a couple of miles away and you've got a proper base for exploring this corner of North Yorkshire. The surrounding landscape is quieter than the Lake District proper, which some people prefer and others find a bit bleak. Go in decent weather - a cloud-covered day here feels properly exposed.
