Dùn Mòr

The walk up Dùn Mòr, just outside Crieff, rewards you with proper Perthshire views once you've earned them. It's not a massive peak - more of a determined hill walk than a full-day expedition - but the views across Strathearn make it worth the leg work. On a clear day you can see for miles, which frankly doesn't happen often enough in this part of Scotland to pass up. The path isn't particularly technical, though it does get steep towards the summit. Most walkers will manage the ascent in under two hours, leaving time to sit about at the top with a flask and actually enjoy what you've climbed for. It's the kind of walk families with older kids (say, over ten) will handle without complaint, though younger ones might find the final push tedious. Winter can be slippery, so go in autumn or spring when the ground's more forgiving. Free to visit, obviously - it's a hill. From Crieff town centre, you're looking at a shortish drive to the trailhead. If you're basing yourself at one of the local parks - Comrie Holiday Park or Comrie Croft are both within spitting distance - you could knock this out as a morning mission before lunch. The summit cairn itself is modest, but the landscape around you justifies the effort. On a busy day you might see a handful of other walkers. On a quieter Tuesday you could have the thing to yourself, which is exactly when Dùn Mòr shows its best side.
