Ancient oaks and beech trees create a proper canopy overhead at this woodland patch just outside Winsford. Dingle Wood feels refreshingly wild compared to the managed countryside that dominates this part of Cheshire, with muddy trails winding between moss-covered trunks and fallen logs.

Families with young children will find it manageable - the paths aren't too challenging and there's enough space for little ones to run about safely. Dog walkers clearly love it here judging by the well-worn tracks, though you'll want decent boots after rain as it gets properly boggy in places.

The wood works well as a quick escape if you're staying at one of the nearby sites like Thornley Leisure or Lakeside Caravan Park. It's not going to occupy you for a full day - an hour or two is plenty unless you're really into woodland photography or bird watching. Spring brings bluebells and fresh green leaves, while autumn offers that satisfying crunch underfoot.

Being free to access (assuming it follows the usual pattern for Cheshire woodlands), it's a decent budget option for stretching legs between caravan park activities. The proximity to Winsford means you can easily combine it with a supermarket run or pub lunch in town.
