Dennison Hill

The walk up Dennison Hill from Kendal takes about ninety minutes if you're not pushing hard, and the views across the Lakeland valleys justify every step. It's not a dramatic peak - nothing like the rougher fells further north - but it's proper rewarding for the effort, especially on a clear day when you can trace the glacial valleys spreading out below you like a map someone's left open on a table.

This is walker territory, full stop. The path isn't technical, but it's steep enough in places that you'll feel your legs working. It's the kind of hill that rewards you for showing up: no scrambling, no exposure, just solid fell walking with a genuine sense of accomplishment at the top. Take it slowly if you're with older kids or less experienced walkers - there's no rush, and the views only get better as you climb.

From the summit, you're looking into proper Cumbrian landscape - moorland, woodland, and those distinctive limestone valleys. On a grey day it's moody and atmospheric. Come back on a sharp autumn afternoon and it's something else entirely.

Kendal sits just a few miles away, so it works perfectly as a midweek walk if you're staying at Two Acre Glamping Pods or the Kendal Camping and Caravanning Club Site. Allow half a day minimum if you want to do it properly without rushing. Go early in the day to dodge the crowds on good weekends, and bring more water than you think you'll need - there's no shelter up there.
