Deganwy Promenade

The promenade at Deganwy curves along the Conwy Estuary like a proper invitation to slow down. You get the Irish Sea views without the full coastal chaos - it's the quieter sibling to the busier spots further along the North Wales coast. The walk itself is straightforward, flat, and takes about 20 minutes end to end if you're not stopping to gawp at the water. Most people do stop.

This is where local dog walkers come, where families burn off energy on a drizzly afternoon, where birdwatchers plant themselves with binoculars when the light's right. The estuary mudflats and saltmarsh make it a decent spot for spotting waders and wildfowl, especially in winter. Bring decent boots if you venture down - it can get boggy after rain.

Free to access, naturally. No entrance fees or opening hours nonsense. You can walk it any time, though the golden hour before sunset is when it actually sings. Allow an hour if you want to properly look around, maybe longer if you're a keen birder.

Staying at one of the nearby parks - Hafan y Gogarth's closest at under two miles, or Tyddyn Du if you want touring pitches - the promenade makes for a decent post-breakfast stroll. It's not a half-day destination on its own, but it slots nicely into a Conwy-based break alongside the castle and town walks. The estuary's the thing here, not Instagram moments. Real value comes from actually watching how the light changes on the water.
