There's no visitor centre, no café, no obvious signs telling you why you're here. You just find yourself standing at a spring watching it run downhill and realising you've stumbled onto something genuinely unspoilt.

It's the kind of place that appeals to walkers who actually like walking rather than just ticking off viewpoints. The spring itself is modest - don't expect thundering cascades - but the forest setting makes it worth the detour from Sheffield if you're exploring the wider area. You could spend ten minutes here or twenty if you're the sort who takes photographs of water. Bring proper boots though, as the ground gets boggy depending on rainfall.

Families with older kids who don't complain about mud will enjoy it. Younger children might find it a bit underwhelming if they're expecting drama. The real appeal is as part of a longer walk through the trees, not as a standalone destination.
