Damphurst Wood

Ancient beech trees tower overhead as you wander the well-worn paths that criss-cross this lovely woodland just outside Westcott. The forest feels properly wild in places, with thick undergrowth and fallen logs creating natural adventure playgrounds that kids absolutely love exploring.

Families will find this spot a real treat - there's enough space for children to run about safely while parents enjoy the peaceful atmosphere. Dog walkers make good use of the various trails too, though you'll want to keep an eye on leads during busy weekends when local families descend for picnics.

The paths can get muddy after rain, so proper walking boots are wise if you're planning more than a quick stroll. Allow about an hour for a decent walk, though you could easily spend longer if the children are enjoying the natural playground.

Location-wise, it works well as a gentle outdoor break if you're staying at one of the glamping sites dotted around the Surrey Hills. Surrey Hills Yurts is just over a mile away, making it perfect for an early morning walk before breakfast. The woodland offers a nice contrast to the more manicured landscapes you'll find at nearby spots like Polesden Lacey.
