Cronkston Low Bowl Barrow

Four thousand years ago, Bronze Age people chose this windswept hillside near Buxton to bury their dead, creating what archaeologists call a bowl barrow. Today, you'll find a grass-covered circular mound that's easy to miss unless you know what you're looking for.

The low earthwork sits in farmland with decent views across the Peak District, though it's hardly spectacular by local standards. What makes it worthwhile is the sense of standing where ancient rituals took place - this was clearly significant ground to someone, given the effort required to build such monuments.
