Càrn na Glaice Mòire

The walk up Càrn na Glaice Mòire rewards you with views across the Great Glen that make the slog worthwhile. It's a proper Highland peak - nothing too technical, but the ascent is relentless and the terrain boggy in places, so decent boots are non-negotiable.

From the summit you're looking out over Loch Ness to the south and westward toward the mountains beyond. On a clear day (and you'll need one) the perspective is genuinely impressive - you understand why this landscape matters. The peak itself sits at around 800 metres, making it accessible to fit walkers rather than mountaineers, though it demands respect and proper kit.

This works brilliantly as part of a longer exploration of the Highlands around Inverness. The nearest camping is Loch Ness Shores, just 3.4 miles away, which gives you a comfortable base for tackling local peaks. Allow three to four hours for the round trip including breaks, depending on your pace and how long you linger at the top.

Walkers and hill enthusiasts will get the most from it - families with young children will struggle with the distance and difficulty. The real appeal is solitude and the sense of climbing into proper mountain country. It's not a tourist attraction in the traditional sense; it's a walking challenge with honest views. Worth the drive from Inverness if you're spending a few days in the area and fancy something beyond the loch-side strolls.
