Creagan Breac

The walk up Creagan Breac from Pitlochry is one of those climbs that catches you out. It looks modest on the map, but the final push is proper steep, and the path gets boggy in sections. That said, if you're based at one of the nearby glamping pods or caravan parks - Tighnavon is less than two miles away - it's a cracking half-day sortie that beats a slog up one of the bigger mountains.

What you get for your effort is a genuine sense of accomplishment and views across the Tummel Valley that justify the sweat. On a clear day, the vista stretches far enough to make you understand why this corner of Perthshire pulls people back year after year. The peak itself is uncluttered - no trig point nonsense, just a proper summit where you can sit and eat a sandwich without queuing.

This isn't a walk for young kids unless they're keen hillwalkers already. Teenagers with any fitness will manage it fine. The real audience here is active adults and serious walkers who've done the circuit around Pitlochry and fancy something with teeth but not a full day commitment. Allow two to three hours for the round trip depending on pace.

Free to walk, obviously. Parking near the trailhead is straightforward. If you're staying at Parkdean Resorts down in Tummel Valley or camping at Kilvrecht, this sits perfectly into a outdoor-focused holiday without needing a car shuffle. Go midweek if you can - weekends pull the crowds.
