Creag Charbh

The walk up Creag Charbh from Killin is steep, relentless, and absolutely worth the effort. You're climbing roughly 2,600 feet from the village, which means legs will burn and lungs will work hard - this isn't a gentle stroll. The payoff, though, is a proper viewpoint over Loch Tay and the surrounding Perthshire hills that justifies every grunt on the way up.

It's the kind of peak that rewards hillwalkers and anyone with decent fitness. Kids aged 10+ might manage it if they're used to Scottish hill days, but younger ones will struggle with the gradient and duration. Allow a good three to four hours for the round trip depending on fitness. There's no charge - you just turn up and start climbing from the village.

The terrain shifts from woodland path to more open moorland as you gain height, which keeps things visually interesting rather than monotonous. On a clear day the panoramic views are genuinely excellent. Come in May or September when the midges are less vicious and the light lingers longer.
