Crappich Hill

The walk up Crappich Hill from Crieff is straightforward and rewarding, which is probably why you'll share the path with more people than you might expect on a weekday. It's not a particularly high peak - you're only looking at around 500 metres or so - but the views across Perthshire more than make up for the modest elevation gain. On a clear day you can see right across to the Trossachs, and the surrounding farmland rolls away in proper undulating fashion. The route itself is well-trodden and takes roughly an hour there and back if you're not stopping to admire the landscape every five minutes. Which you will be.

This one's best suited to families who want a proper walk without the all-day commitment, or anyone staying at Twenty Shilling Wood or Comrie Holiday Park who fancies stretching their legs without needing a packed lunch and an OS map. Older kids will manage it fine. The terrain isn't technical - it's more of a steady plod than anything technical - though it does get a bit muddy after rain so come prepared. Go in autumn if you can; the light's better and you'll have far fewer people for company.

Crieff itself is a decent enough base if you're planning a week in the area, with decent shops and a couple of reasonable pubs. Loch Earn Leisure Park is close by if you fancy a change of scenery on another day. Free to access, naturally - it's a hillside - and there's parking near the start of the path. Nothing fancy, mind you.
