Craigowmill

Craigowmill is a Bronze Age standing stone that's been quietly doing its thing on the Perthshire landscape for roughly 4,000 years. It's not flashy - just a single upright stone, weathered and genuine, the kind of monument that makes you stop and actually think about deep time rather than snap a photo and move on.

The site sits near Kinross, easily reached from the surrounding caravan parks if you're basing yourself at Gallowhill or Maycroft Retreat. It's the sort of place that appeals to archaeology enthusiasts and walkers keen on linking Bronze Age sites into a longer route across the area. Families with older children might get something from it, but it's not a destination that'll hold a three-year-old's attention for long. You're looking at fifteen minutes here, maybe half an hour if you're genuinely interested in the history and want to sit with the views.

Access appears to be free and unrestricted - there's no visitor centre, no facilities, just the stone and the surrounding landscape. That's rather the point. It's raw history without the interpretation boards, which some will find refreshing and others frustrating.

The real appeal is combining this with other Neolithic and Bronze Age monuments in the region while staying at one of the nearby parks.
