Walking into Cotts Wood feels like stepping through a door into proper Surrey woodland - all beech and oak, dappled shade, and the kind of quiet that actually matters. It's the sort of forest where you can spend an afternoon wandering without seeing another soul, which in the South East counts as a small miracle.

The wood itself doesn't demand much. There are footpaths threading through, nothing too taxing, and the ground stays reasonably dry underfoot even after rain. You're looking at a couple of hours if you want to explore without rushing, maybe longer if you're the type to stop and identify birds or just sit on a fallen log for twenty minutes doing nothing in particular.

Worth building into a longer Surrey walking trip rather than a destination in itself, but if you're camping locally and want somewhere genuine, Cotts Wood delivers.
