Cosh Knott

The walk up Cosh Knott from Settle is straightforward enough, though it's easy to see why most people skip it for the bigger names nearby. The summit itself sits at just over 2,000 feet, giving you decent views across Ribblesdale and towards the higher peaks of the Pennines - nothing that'll make you catch your breath, but solid moorland panoramas all the same.

What makes this worthwhile is the approach. You're walking through proper fell country, past limestone outcrops and heather, with Settle clearly visible below. It takes a couple of hours up and back, depending on your pace, and the path is well-trodden enough that you won't get lost. Families with older kids will manage it fine, though younger ones might find it a slog without proper motivation.

Go when the weather's reasonable - the exposed moorland can get grim quickly if the clouds roll in. Early morning or late afternoon light transforms the walk into something more worthwhile than the hill itself warrants.
