Corbyn’s Head

The coastal path down to Corbyn's Head rewards the effort with proper Devon scenery - red cliffs dropping to shale beaches, the sort of walk that reminds you why people move to this part of the world. It's a nature reserve, so you're here for the geology and wildlife rather than facilities or crowds. The headland itself is relatively modest compared to some of Devon's more famous coastal landmarks, but that's rather the point. You get space to breathe.

The approach is straightforward enough, though there's a decent climb back up afterwards, so factor in a solid two hours if you're starting from Torquay direction. Walkers will get the most from this - families with young children might find the return leg a bit much, but anyone who doesn't mind a proper coastal path will find it worthwhile. Bring binoculars if you're interested in seabirds; the cliffs attract plenty of them. It's free to access, which keeps it relatively under the radar compared to the busier attractions around Torquay.

If you're based at one of the holiday parks within a couple of miles - Parkdean Resorts Torquay or Hoburne Devon Bay are close by - it's an excellent morning out without needing to drive far. The walk works well as a break from park activities, something to clear your head before lunch. Best done earlier in the day when the light's good for photographs and you've got the path mostly to yourself.
