Conwy Falls (Rhaeadr y Graig Lwyd)

The waterfall hits you first - a proper cascade that thunders down the slate cliff about 200 feet above the river. Rhaeadr y Graig Lwyd, or Conwy Falls as most people know it, sits just outside Betws-y-Coed in a narrow gorge where the Conwy River decides to get dramatic. It's a short walk from the car park, maybe ten minutes downhill through woods, and you emerge right at the base where the spray catches you in summer and the roar of it drowns out everything else.

This is walkers' territory, though families with reasonable fitness won't struggle with the approach. The falls themselves are best in winter or after heavy rain - spring water just means a trickle compared to what they can be. If you're camping at Snowdonia Glamping Holidays or Conwy Valley Touring Park, this is an easy detour that takes under an hour from start to finish. Worth building into a morning if you're already exploring the valley.

The village of Betws-y-Coed sits just downhill and makes a natural base. The falls have no facilities - just the car park and the walk - so bring water. Admission is free, which feels right for something this straightforward. Don't expect a destination in itself; think of it as a proper refreshment break during a day in Snowdonia rather than the main event. The gorge walls are steep enough to feel atmospheric, and the sound carries. That's the appeal.
