Cefn-rhydd

The walk up Cefn-rhydd rewards you with views across the Conwy Valley that make the climb genuinely worthwhile. It's not a dramatic peak - more a proper fell with open moorland rather than craggy drama - but the vantage point puts you firmly in Snowdonia's heart, with the bigger mountains forming a jagged backdrop to the south.

The ascent from Betws-y-Coed takes roughly two to three hours depending on your pace and fitness. It's a solid walker's outing rather than a stroll, though nothing technically difficult. The path itself can be boggy after rain, so decent boots matter. On a clear day you'll spot right across towards Snowdon and the Glyderau ridges, and down into the Conwy itself - the sort of landscape you don't tire of looking at.

This works perfectly if you're basing yourself at one of the glamping spots nearby. Maenan Abbey Caravan Park too if you prefer caravan camping. It's not the sort of thing that demands a full morning's tourist logistics - you just head out after breakfast.

Historically, Cefn-rhydd feeds into Conwy's wider story, though the peak itself won't yield Roman coins or castle views in the way other summits do. It appeals to walkers who want proper fell time without the scrambling or crowds you'd find on the higher peaks. Solo hikers and small groups thrive here; families with young children might find the boggy stretches and climb a bit much.
