The clubhouse is no-frills but functional, and the staff won't fuss you. Spring and early autumn are your best bets weather-wise, though even a damp Scottish day has its charm when you're focused on your handicap.

For golfers staying at one of the nearby holiday parks - Comrie Holiday Park sits right on the doorstep, or Comrie Croft if you want something with a bit more character - it's an obvious choice. Loch Earn Leisure Park, six miles south, also works well as a base. But be honest with yourself: you need to care about your game. If you're the sort who'd rather drink Guinness and tell stories about the time you almost scored a birdie, brilliant - grab a pint at the club after instead.
