Coed Parc

The woodland around Coed Parc feels properly wild once you're into it, despite being just outside Llanrwst. This isn't some manicured country estate forest - it's genuinely wooded terrain with mixed trees, decent footpaths, and the kind of peace you get when there aren't crowds funnelling through a single entrance.

You're looking at a solid walk here, not a quick stroll. The paths wind through the trees, climbing gently in places, and if you time it right you'll barely see another person. Spring's excellent for bluebells. Autumn if you want that proper woodland feel with the light coming through gold leaves. The local streams add a bit of character, and on a damp day the whole place smells how Wales should smell.

Walkers will get the most from Coed Parc - bring proper boots. Families with young kids might find it a bit much unless they're the type that genuinely enjoy rambling rather than having 'something to do'. History buffs won't find any obvious ruins or medieval bits, though the area itself has deep Welsh roots.

If you're staying at Maenan Abbey Caravan Park - literally under a mile away - this is your natural extension. You can knock out a couple of hours here on a morning before heading elsewhere, or make it a proper half-day venture. It's free, no gates, just go. Allow two to three hours if you're taking it seriously. Winter can make the paths slippery; that's when to pack the right kit.
