Coed Duon

Coed Duon is a proper working forest near Abergele, tucked into the North Wales landscape between Conwy and the coast. It's the kind of place where you can actually walk among trees that feel like they belong here rather than feel like an attraction - because they're not trying to be one. The woodland trails wind through decent-sized stands of conifers and broadleaf, giving you enough cover that even on drizzly days (and there will be drizzly days) you stay relatively dry.

Families can manage it fine provided the kids aren't expecting theme parks and ice cream at the end. The paths are manageable rather than punishing, which counts for plenty.

Free to access and open all hours - you're essentially walking into working woodland, which keeps things refreshingly straightforward. You're not far from Abergele if you need facilities or food after, and it slots nicely into a caravan park stay at Plas Farm or Bron-y-Wendon, both within twenty minutes' drive.
