Cnoc Udais

The walk up Cnoc Udais is genuinely rewarding, especially if you're based in or near Beauly and fancy something with a bit more grunt than a flat stroll around the park. This Highland peak gives you proper panoramic views across the Moray Firth and back towards Ben Wyvis - on a clear day it's absolutely worth the climb.

It's a moderately steep ascent from the Beauly area, taking a good couple of hours return depending on fitness and how many times you stop to catch your breath and admire the views. The path isn't technical or dangerous, just relentless in places. Best tackled in decent weather - mist up here renders the whole thing rather pointless.

Historically, this is old Highland territory with Pictish and Gaelic connections, though you won't find much in the way of interpretation on the ground. You're there for the views and the exertion, not the stories. Families with older kids will get on fine; younger ones might grumble. Solo walkers and hill-bagging types absolutely should add it to their list.

The path starts from accessible spots near Beauly itself, making it a natural half-day outing if you're staying at Beauly Holiday Park just down the road. No facilities on the hill itself, so bring water and something to eat. Free to access, obviously - it's a Scottish Highland peak. Go when the weather forecast actually looks promising.
