Cnoc Brannan

The walk up Cnoc Brannan doesn't take long, which is precisely why it works so well as a half-morning outing from Crieff. You're looking at roughly 45 minutes to the summit if you're moving at a decent pace, less if you're after a quick leg-stretch between holiday park activities. The hill itself sits at a modest height, but the views across Perthshire are genuinely worth the effort - on a clear day you can pick out the distant Trossachs and a proper sweep of farmland rolling toward the Earn valley.

It's popular with families because it's not punishing. Children won't rebel halfway up, and the path is straightforward enough that you don't need mountain skills. Walkers who've tackled bigger peaks in the Cairngorms sometimes dismiss it as too easy, but that misses the point. This is a proper hill for a proper walk, not a slog. The ground can get boggy after rain, so waterproof boots are sense rather than luxury.

Based near Crieff, you're well positioned. Twenty Shilling Wood Holiday Park and Comrie Holiday Park sit within easy reach, both rated excellently by visitors. If you're staying at either one, Cnoc Brannan makes a logical morning adventure before lunch. Loch Earn Leisure Park is fractionally further out, but still within reasonable distance. Admission is free - it's a hill, after all. Just show up early enough to avoid the afternoon light fading too fast. The summit's the real reward here, so give yourself time to sit and actually enjoy it rather than race back down.
