Cleobury North Pool

The water at Cleobury North Pool sits dark and still, ringed by woodland that makes it feel properly secluded despite being only a few miles from Bridgnorth. It's a working reservoir rather than a tourist attraction, but that's precisely why it works. No gift shop, no car park with ice cream vans - just a quiet spot where locals come to fish and walkers use it as a turning point on longer rambles through the Shropshire countryside.

What you get here depends entirely on what you're after. Anglers will find decent pike and coarse fishing if you've got permits sorted. Everyone else comes for the walk around the perimeter, which takes the best part of an hour without rushing. The woodland on one side gives way to more open banks on the other, and there are decent views across the water toward the surrounding hills. It's the kind of place that's genuinely peaceful - you might see a heron, definitely some waterfowl, but you won't see crowds.

Bring binoculars if you're into birds, and definitely wear proper shoes because the path can get boggy depending on weather. Families with young kids might find it a bit underwhelming on its own - there's nowhere to picnic directly by the water, and once you've done the walk there's not much to linger for.
