City of Joy St Andrews RCCG

If you're staying at one of the caravan parks clustered around St Andrews - and there are three decent ones within walking distance - City of Joy St Andrews RCCG is worth a Sunday morning visit, though perhaps not worth a special trip on its own.

It's a Redeemed Christian Church of God congregation, one of several churches dotting the town. The building itself isn't going to stop you in your tracks architecturally, but the service has genuine warmth. You'll get a proper welcome, and the community spirit is real enough - no awkward silences when visitors turn up.

Really, though, this is best combined with everything else St Andrews offers. The town itself is the draw: golf courses if you're mad for it, the university ruins that actually justify the trip, decent cafes along the high street. The beach walk isn't bad either when the weather's reasonable. The three holiday parks - Craigtoun Meadows is the most highly rated if you're choosing - are all within striking distance, which makes a week-long stay here feel properly doable rather than expensive.

Go to the church if you're keen on attending services while away, or if you want to experience the local faith community. Don't detour specifically for it. St Andrews itself has enough going on to fill three days, and the church fits as part of that picture rather than as a destination in itself. The real value is being based here for a few nights, settling into the rhythm of the town.
