Chinthurst Hill

The walk up Chinthurst Hill rewards you with views across the Surrey countryside that genuinely justify the climb. It's not a dramatic summit - you're looking at a modest peak in the Weald - but on a clear day the vistas sprawl properly across rolling farmland and woodland. The footpath isn't particularly brutal either, making it accessible for most walkers without needing specialist kit.

It's the kind of walk that works brilliantly if you're camped at Chantry Wood Campsite or staying at Firesyde nearby. Give yourself a couple of hours for the full outing including time to sit about at the top with a flask. Families with kids aged eight and up will manage it without complaint, though younger children might find the descent harder on their knees than the way up.

What you won't find here is a café, a visitor centre, or any kind of infrastructure. Bring water. Bring snacks. The hill itself is free to access - it's proper countryside, not a ticketed attraction. Go early on a weekend if you can, because the car park at the trailhead fills quickly and there's nowhere to queue in a lay-by.

The real value is fitting it into a broader walking holiday in the Surrey Hills. Pair it with nearby parks like Edgeley or Chapel Farm, both within reasonable striking distance, and you've got yourself several days of legitimate countryside rambling. It's solid, unpretentious walking. Nothing more, nothing less.
