Chimney Rock

You'll spot it from miles away - a stubby finger of rock jutting out from the cliffs near Bridport, looking like someone's left a giant chimney behind. Chimney Rock is exactly what its name suggests: a distinctive sandstone stack that's become the defining landmark of this stretch of Dorset coastline.

The real appeal is the walk to get there. The coastal path from West Bay brings you along dramatic golden cliffs, and Chimney Rock serves as a natural focal point - something to aim for rather than just rambling aimlessly. It's about forty minutes on foot from Bridport, depending on your pace and how many times you stop to take photos. The rock itself isn't climbable or anything, but standing at its base and looking back toward the cliffs is genuinely impressive. Low tide reveals more of the base, which is worth timing if you're keen on geology.

It works best for walkers and photographers. Kids might find it a bit underwhelming if you've promised them an actual attraction - it's really just a rock - but as part of a longer coastal walk it's brilliant. The area sees few crowds even in summer, which is refreshing.

Golden Cap Holiday Park is further along the coast and offers different starting points. No entry fees or facilities at the rock itself - just bring proper walking boots and check the tide times if you want to explore the base.
