Cheshunt Library

You won't stumble upon Cheshunt Library looking for thrills, but if you're based at one of the Lee Valley parks and need to escape a rainy afternoon, it does the job. The building itself is functional rather than fancy - a proper local library serving the Waltham Cross area with books, computers, and the sort of quiet that actually lets you think.

It's genuinely useful if you've got kids who need to burn an hour indoors or if you're the sort who gets itchy without access to a decent reading room. They've got the usual stock of fiction and non-fiction, plus computers if you need to sort something urgent online. Free admission, which is always a bonus.

The reality though: it's not a destination in itself. You're not coming here as a day trip from London or rerouting your holiday around it. What it is, however, is a solid backup plan. Stuck at Fowley Mead Park or Theobalds Park during a downpour? It's barely a mile away. The opening hours are a bit patchy - closed Wednesdays entirely, and Friday doesn't kick in until 2pm - so check ahead if you're relying on it.

For families with younger children, the quiet reading space is actually a proper selling point. Teenagers won't thank you for dragging them here. But if you're a reader yourself, it's a welcome spot to settle with a book while the weather clears.
