Cheddar Crazy Golf

A round of mini golf in Cheddar might sound like a throwaway half-hour, but it's actually a decent little break if you're camped nearby and the weather's turned dodgy. The course winds through indoor and outdoor sections with the usual castle themes and obstacle holes - nothing groundbreaking, but it does the job well enough. Kids will enjoy it more than adults, truth be told, though there's something mildly entertaining about watching a grown-up miss a putt on the windmill hole.

You're looking at about an hour if you play at a normal pace, maybe ninety minutes if you've got young ones who need help lining up shots. It's the sort of thing that works as a rainy-day activity rather than a main event - throw it in between a visit to Cheddar Gorge and lunch back in the village. The town itself is packed with caravan parks, and Owley Woods Glamping and Cheddar Bridge are both within walking distance, so it's convenient if you're staying put for a few days. Cheddar Woods Resort & Spa is also close enough to make it worth considering as a filler activity.

I'd ring ahead to check current opening hours and prices before you go - details were thin on the ground when I looked into it. It's free admission if you're just browsing, but you'll obviously pay to play. Don't make a special journey for it, but if you're already in Cheddar with restless kids on a grey afternoon, it'll keep everyone occupied without breaking the bank.
