Cefnycerrig

The walk up Cefnycerrig is proper steep - I won't lie about that - but the effort pays off once you're stood on top looking across to Snowdon and beyond. It's not one of those massive peaks that dominates the skyline, more of a solid hump that rises up near Caernarfon, which makes it ideal if you want genuine views without a full-day expedition.

From the summit you get decent sight lines across the Menai Strait towards Anglesey on a clear day. The walk itself takes around 45 minutes to an hour depending on pace, and the path is reasonably well-trodden even if it's muddy after rain. Bring proper boots - I made the mistake of wearing trainers and regretted it halfway up.

This is one for walkers who've already done the big Snowdonia hitters and fancy something shorter. Families with older kids could manage it, but younger ones might find the steepness tedious. There's not much at the top - no cafe, no facilities - so pack what you need.

If you're based at Llechwedd Glamping up at Plas Weunydd, Cefnycerrig makes a cracking morning walk before heading into Caernarfon for lunch. It's close enough that you're not burning half your holiday just getting there, but far enough away that you feel like you've actually gone somewhere. Free to walk, obviously. Go early if the weather looks uncertain - clouds roll in fast around here.
