About Cefn Onneu
It's the kind of walk that rewards you without punishing you. The landscape opens out as you climb - you'll see why people come back to this corner of Mid Wales. On a clear day, the visibility is excellent. On a grey one, which happens often enough, you're still getting fresh air and the satisfaction of being higher than the town below.
Families with kids aged eight and up will manage this without complaint. It's not a slog, and there's enough sense of achievement at the top to keep them interested. Serious fell-walkers will find it a bit tame if you're looking for real challenge, but as part of a longer Brecon Beacons round, it slots in nicely.
Base yourself at Cwmdu Campsite just down the road - it's got proper facilities and sits in a decent spot for exploring the area. Crickhowell itself is worth an hour wandering around the high street. You won't need to book ahead for the walk itself; just turn up and start climbing. Best done in decent weather, obviously.
