Ancient oaks tower overhead while moss-covered paths wind through this proper woodland just outside Fishguard. The trees here have seen centuries pass, their gnarled branches creating a cathedral of green that filters the Welsh light into dappled patterns on the forest floor.

Walkers will find plenty to explore along the unmarked trails that meander through different sections of the wood. Some paths are clear and well-trodden, others require a bit more determination as brambles encroach from the sides. It's the sort of place where you can easily spend two hours without realising it, following deer tracks and listening to woodpeckers.

Families with older children who don't mind uneven ground will enjoy the adventure of it all. Younger ones might find the lack of clear paths frustrating, though there's enough fallen timber to clamber over to keep them interested for an hour or so.

Being so close to Fishguard makes it an easy addition to a Pembrokeshire park holiday. Several sites like Tregroes Caravan Camping and Fishguard Holiday Park sit within walking distance, making this a lovely spot for an early morning ramble before the day heats up. The woods feel genuinely wild - no visitor centre or waymarked routes, just you and the trees as they've stood for generations.
