Carn Trefeiddan

The walk up Carn Trefeiddan takes about forty minutes from Ganol, and it's one of those Pembrokeshire peaks that rewards the effort without being a slog. You're climbing just over 300 metres, so it's well within reach for families who don't mind a steady trudge uphill. The views from the top stretch across the Preseli Hills and down towards the coast - proper sprawling stuff.

What makes this worthwhile is the sense of remoteness. You won't find crowds here, which means you get the landscape largely to yourself. The path itself is straightforward enough, though it can get boggy after rain, so appropriate footwear matters. Allow two hours return if you're taking it gently and want to sit about at the summit.

Historically minded visitors will appreciate that this is Preseli country - the stones for Stonehenge supposedly came from these hills, which gives the whole walk a bit of weight. Whether that interests you or not, the moorland itself has genuine character: windswept, ancient-feeling, with that particular Welsh hill atmosphere.

If you're based at Rhosson Campsite or Rhosson Ganol, you're basically on the doorstep. Even from Caerfai Bay or Pencarnan Farm, it's a short drive to the start. It's the sort of walk that fits nicely into a day combining coastal visits - you could easily pair it with a trip down to the beaches near Ganol afterwards. Free to attempt, obviously, and worth the half-day commitment if you like moorland walking.
