Capstone Farm Country Park

The working farm sits on the edge of Maidstone, with proper countryside views despite being so close to town. You're walking through actual fields here, not some manicured tourist trap. The main draw is seeing farm animals going about their day - sheep, cattle, the usual suspects - but it's the landscape that stays with you. On a clear day you can see right across the Medway Valley, which beats staring at a car park.

Families with young kids will find it engaging enough for a couple of hours, especially if the animals are out. Older children might get restless unless they're genuinely into farming. Walkers get the real value - there are decent trails threading through the park, and you can easily string together a longer walk if you combine it with nearby footpaths. It's less about museum-style attractions and more about fresh air and modest countryside.

The place is free to wander, which is refreshing. No entrance fee, no gift shop pushing overpriced tat. Allow an hour for a casual stroll, longer if you want to sit and watch the animals actually do something. Spring and early summer are best - the fields are green, the lambs are about, and the whole thing feels less like a muddy trudge.

If you're based at Kits Coty Glamping just down the road, this makes an easy morning jaunt. Oak View Holiday Park is similarly close. Neither replaces a proper country walk, but it's decent for breaking up a park holiday without going far.
