Canoe Ramp

The slipway at Huntingdon is one of those places you stumble across rather than plan for. It's a proper working canoe ramp - nothing fancy, just a concrete slope leading down to the Great Ouse, where paddlers launch their boats on a regular basis. You'll see kayakers and canoeists here most weekends, testing the water before heading downstream.

It's honestly more of a spot to watch than to linger at for hours. Five or ten minutes is usually enough unless you're genuinely interested in paddling yourself. The real appeal comes if you're staying at Huntingdon Boathaven & Caravan Park nearby - you're only 2.4 miles away, so it's an easy detour on foot or by bike. From here you get a decent sense of how the town connects to the river, which beats staring at a car park.

Historically it's unremarkable, but the Ouse itself is worth paying attention to. This stretch of river has shaped Huntingdon's character for centuries, and the ramp is simply where that relationship becomes visible. Families with young children might get bored quickly, but if anyone in your group is into water sports or keen on local detail, it's worth the walk.

Go on a dry day if you're bringing a camera - the concrete can be slippery. There's no formal facilities here, so don't expect toilets or a café. It's free to visit and you can access it anytime, though it's busiest on calm afternoons when the river's inviting.
